If you watch only one Icelandic gay vampire film this year.... Yes, Thirst is a delightfully grisly deadpan horror comedy featuring a cock-obsessed vamp called Hjörtur who walks the streets of icy Reykjavik in search of food. When he meets Hulda, freshly released from jail and in the sights of police detective Jens for the unexplained death of her brother, the odd couple try to keep one step ahead of a mysterious religious cult.
Steinþór Hróar Steinþórsson & Gaukur Úlfarsson's film is a cult classic in the making, with ridiculous set pieces involving severed members, gory kills and one very amusing visual joke involving a hot dog. It does sag a bit in the middle but delivers a satisfying blood-soaked climax.
Thirst is available in UK and Republic of Ireland via VOD.
